Google Play works differently from the App Store: instead of fixed device sizes, it gives you a range and a set of rules. Here is exactly what Play Console accepts, and what to upload in practice.
On this page
Rather than exact dimensions, Google enforces boundaries. Any screenshot must satisfy all of these:
| Requirement | Value |
|---|---|
| Minimum side length | 320 px |
| Maximum side length | 3840 px |
| Maximum aspect ratio | 2:1 |
| File format | PNG or JPEG |
| Maximum file size | 8 MB each |
| Transparency | Not allowed |
| Screenshots per device type | 2 – 8 |
The 2:1 rule catches people out. The longer side cannot be more than twice the shorter side. A tall 1080 × 2400 screenshot from a modern Android phone is fine at 2.22:1 — but only just outside if you go taller. If Play Console rejects an upload without a clear reason, check this ratio first.
Within those limits, these are the sizes that work reliably and look right in the store listing:
| Device type | Dimensions | Ratio | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Phone | 1080 × 1920 | 9:16 | Required |
| Phone (taller) | 1080 × 2160 | 9:18 | Common |
| 7-inch tablet | 1200 × 1920 | 5:8 | If supported |
| 10-inch tablet | 1600 × 2560 | 5:8 | If supported |
| Chromebook | 1920 × 1080 | 16:9 | If supported |
If you only produce one set, make it 1080 × 1920 phone screenshots. That covers the required minimum and displays correctly for the large majority of Play Store visitors.
Screenshots are not the only images Play Console asks for. Two others are mandatory:
| Asset | Dimensions | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Feature graphic | 1024 × 500 | Required for all listings. Shown at the top of your store page and in promotional placements. |
| App icon | 512 × 512 | 32-bit PNG. Required. |
Keep important text away from the edges of the feature graphic. It gets cropped differently across placements, and centred content survives every crop.
Only if your app supports tablets — but if it does, this matters more than most developers realise. Google Play evaluates listings per form factor. Without tablet screenshots, your app can be left out of tablet recommendations and rated lower for large-screen quality, even when the app itself works fine on a tablet.
If you support tablets, upload at least two 10-inch tablet screenshots at 1600 × 2560.
MockupLite turns your raw Android screenshots into a complete, correctly sized Play Store set — Pixel and Galaxy device frames, backgrounds, and captions, delivered as an organized ZIP.
Open the studio →There is no single required size. Each side must be 320–3840 px with a maximum 2:1 aspect ratio. Most developers use 1080 × 1920 for phones.
Minimum 2 and maximum 8 per device type. Two is enough to publish, but listings with 4–6 well-designed screenshots generally communicate more.
1024 × 500 pixels, PNG or JPEG, no transparency. It is required for every listing.
The designs can be shared, but the files should not be. The two stores use different dimensions and aspect ratios, so reusing App Store files on Play means letterboxing or crops. Export a set per store — see our App Store screenshot sizes reference for the iOS dimensions.
Yes. Captions and frames are standard. The constraint is that screenshots must represent the actual app experience, and they must not imitate Google Play UI elements such as fake install buttons or ratings badges.
